Shadow :(

http://www.petplace.com/cats/aural-hematoma-in-cats/page1.aspx#

Shadow's left ear has been swollen for awhile. We took her to the vet today and found out she has a hematoma( see link above for description and pic). They had to do surgery on her: put her out, lance and drain her ear, then stitch it up. They may or may not bandage it as well. Apparently this was caused by her shaking her head due to irritation from ear mites. The shaking caused a blood vessel in her ear to burst and fill her ear with blood. It is very painful and looks it.

I called the vet an hour or so ago and she was still out. Hopefully we will be able to pick her up this evening, not tomorrow, but we will have to wait and see.

Now I have to treat both cats for ear mites. I have no clue how they got them in the first place though since they are both indoor only cats since they are completely declawed. Unless it is possibly a thing they had when we brought them home from the shelter. That has been almost a year ago though so,.....

I'm sad for her,...I wish we had known sooner so she wouldn't have had to go through this. Hopefully we can get Bethany to leave her alone when she comes home. Bethany LOVES her and is always petting and hugging (and occasionally laying on) her.

In happier news it's now only 3 more days till I get to see Garrett!!! I am looking forward to that like you wouldn't believe.

Bethany has been taking herself to the bathroom lately, she still needs help wiping though. We are so proud of her. When we started potty training I did not think that she would pick it up so quickly,...I was all prepared to have 2 kids in diapers. Boy was I wrong to underestimate her! I think the last time I bought diapers(for Bethany) was almost 2 months ago and we still have half a box left,...I don't think she has worn even one in the past month. :)
